Dr. Peter Pohl
Today's parents are often at a loss when dealing with their children's problem behaviors. Although they certainly care enough about their children, they often do not know how to translate that care into effective parental skills. The key to most childhood disorders is teaching parents how to deal with these problems on a behavioral level. Once they learn how to change their own parental behavior in a consistent manner, it is usually only a matter of days when they actually begin to see their children solve those problems. And the skills the parents learn by enabling their children to solve these problems readily generalize to other situations and to other children. Thus, the simple philosophy of the Child Psychology Practice Garmisch is that in their day-to day interactions, parents hold the key to their children's healthy development.
Applying Behavioral Science to many hundreds of children with behavioral problems over the years has proven to be extremely rewarding both for the families involved and for the Child Psychology Practice Garmisch. Time and again, it has provided the empirical evidence that in many cases our present stage of the science of behavior is commensurate with the complexity of behavioral processes and problems in real life. Anyone who has worked with behavioral procedures professionally can see that nothing less than a science of human behavior will help to solve some of the challenging problems facing us and our children today.
